My Thrifting Finds Of The Day - 1/12/14

Hi everyone, I hope you had a great weekend of finding vintage goodies!  There were not many Estate sales in my area this weekend, the 2 I went to were duds - so I was forced to drive further out than I usually do.  I went to 3 other sales - 2 of them I hardly found anything at, but at the third one - BINGO!  It was advertised as a sale that you would have to "dig" in, and dig I did!  I found oodles of vintage treasures, but I did not have time to clean them all up before I took pictures to share with you....so please excuse the dust on some of the items, and an occasional cobweb  :)  I also went to my usual thrift stores, but only found stuff at one of them.

First, I found not one - but two! lady head vases!  I love the pretty gold that was used on the flowers she is wearing.

Next I found a huge ceramic owl, he must be about 16" tall.  Not sure what I am going to do with him yet because he is so big - maybe he can go on the patio in the summer.  Whooooo whooooooo knows, but wherever he goes, he will be cute.

I found a ceramic wall plaque with dimensional birds.  I love the Blue Jay perched on the branch.  He looks so lifelike!

Next, a cute little ashtray from Eureka Springs, Arkansas.  Oops, I forgot to take the price tag off - it was only 50 cents.

I was so happy to find this adorable vintage wooden snowman scene, it expands to make a bigger scene.

Then I found a vintage metal Santa Claus wall light, and it works!

A vintage holy water font, I love the soft colors on it.

A vintage Austrian dish with beautiful pastel pink roses on it.  It is about 12" long.

I found a cute old mouse candle - there are no tags on it, so not sure of the maker.  I didn't  have a mouse candle, and had never seen one before.

A vintage St. Francis planter, he is holding a sweet little bird.

A white pottery duck planter, just in time for Easter!

And I found more vintage jewelry to keep, and for use in my crafting!

A gorgeous necklace, bracelet, and earring set with AB rhinestones!

Another picture of the jewelry - I think the little orchid is my favorite!  I also got a jar full of old crystal iridescent beads to use in my jewelry.

This is the last item I have for today - I don't think it is that old (maybe from the 80's?) but it is beyond cute!  It is a metal windup toy called the "Bird Home".  I took pictures from all angles so that you can see the adorable graphics on it.  This toy has 3 mechanical birds that fly around in a circle on top of the bird house, a bird that comes out of the house, like a cuckoo clock, a little birdie on a swing that moves on the side of the house, another bird that comes out the front of the house, a clock that moves, and yet another bird on the roof of the house.

Love the owl graphics!

I will be taking more pictures of the other goodies that I got from this sale, and will post them in a few days.  Until then, happy thrifting everyone!  And thank you so much for visiting Pixie Vintage!

My Thrifting Finds Of The Day - 1/7/14

Hi Everyone!  If you are in the area that was hit by the arctic freeze, I hope it is starting to warm up for you.  Today our temp is a whopping 3 degrees....brrrrrr, but at least it is not sub-zero, and the winds have died down.  I tried to post yesterday, but my cable kept going out.  After losing 2 posts, I decided to wait until today and try again.  I did, however, have a productive day at home!  I repainted a room in my house - yay!, and also finished a new background and header for my blog that I had been working on - I hope that you will like it.

So here are today's thrifted and Estate Sale'd goodies to share with you!

I should probably save the best for last, but I am so excited to show you this, I can't wait! Found at an Estate Sale, 6 darling little pastel made in Japan mica bird ornaments.  The even have the little googly eyes...LOL...They do not even look like they have ever been used, still in their original box.

Aren't they adorable?!  Too late to use them on the Christmas tree, but I can put them out for Easter, on the pastel Easter tree.  I am just giddy over them!

Next up is a little donkey pulling a cart planter, and another rooster for the chicken/rooster collection.

I found these  little fellas at a local thrift shop, a sweet vintage plastic chick and bunny rabbit.  Now I have to remember not to pack them away too good, or I will not be able to find them for Easter.  (not that I have ever actually done that)....ahem....    :)

I always make sure to check out those plastic "grab bags" I find at the thrift, because you never know what you will find.  This one bag had envelopes and notepads in the front, but upon closer inspection, I found a whole bunch of old, mostly Dennison books of seals.

They are so colorful and I love the graphics on them.

From another Estate Sale, I found this sweet little lovebird statue.  Sorry I took the picture at a wonky angle, because you really can't see them that well.  The birdie on top is gazing lovingly at the one on the bottom, it's so "tweet"  :)

I found another Pixie!  I did not have this one, and he is all decked out with tacky, kitschy plastic holly that I love.
A tiny stuffed pastel bunny rabbit, it is only a few inches long.  It's body is pink and the little ears are pale blue.  It is beyond adorable!
I also found a vintage rooster tablecloth.  It is in good condition, but needs a soak in OxiClean for a few spots that I found.  I did not have a rooster tablecloth, so this is a welcome addition to the collection.

At the thrift shop, I found a pottery pitcher.  It does have crazing and darkening  by the handle.  I am going to try and get that discoloration out, hope it will work.  If not, I still like it a lot.
Also from the thrift shop, I found another multi-strand beaded necklace, and matching cluster earrings.  The beads are plastic, and they have the cutest little blue bead caps.  They remind me of tulips, don't they?
A vintage Sears Praying Angel.  She is pretty large, about 12", and still in the box.  The box has taken a beating though.
I found some clusters of little vintage glass flowers.  These I will probably use in my crafting projects.

And last but not least, a huge vintage rhinestone pin.  It is about 4 inches long, and this will be refashioned into a necklace.  It is missing a few stones, but I have lots in my stash to repair it with.
Well, I think that I will venture out today to go to a few thrifts.  I am having thrifting withdrawls because of this horrible weather we are having!  ack  Hope you will enjoy my thrifted treasures, and wishing you the best in thrifty goodness!

Blizzard, Bird Feeders, and Frolicking Dogs

What does a blizzard, bird feeders and frolicking dogs have to do with Vintage, you ask?  Absolutely nothing!  LOL  But we are having one heck of a winter storm, and I wanted to show you what our yard looked like today.  This is what I woke up to this morning:

and that was just the beginning...it just kept snowing, and snowing, and snowwwwwwing.  Three acres of Winter Wonderland!  The back yard looks so pretty with all that snow (and there is about 10 inches more of it now!  :)  We have had the driveway plowed twice already today.  Now tonight it is supposed to get down to -14 below zero, with wind chills of -44 below zero!  yikes!

I took extra precautions to fill up all the bird feeders - we have 7 of them.  I kept shoveling a spot in the front yard and putting extra seed on the ground for the birds too. The Goldfinches were very hungry - every feeding station on the thistle feeder was full.

The Woodpeckers were filling up at the suet feeders.  I love all the birds, but I am especially fond of my little Woodpeckers.

This poor Cardinal is getting blown away as he is trying to grab some seed.  This is the squirrel-proof feeder I bought this summer - and so far, it has prevented the squirrels from taking all the seed.  I put dried corn out for the squirrels.

And a lone Goldfinch feeding from the other sunflower seed feeder:

The dogs always enjoy romping in the snow!  Here is PeeWee, my Pomeranian, checking out the snow.

My friend's Bulldog came by for a visit, and is pondering how he can get into mischief  :)  He and PeeWee are best buddies.

Pee Wee says "hey Mom, let's play!"

Here comes the Bulldog barreling down the dog run - look out!

♥ My little snow dog ♥

Hope you are staying warm and toasty wherever you are!  Tomorrow I will be back to show you my newest thrifted goodies, see you then!

My Thrifting Finds Of The Day - 1/3/14

Hi Everyone,  I hope you all had a very happy and wonderful New Year!  I made a New Year's resolution to "do more thrifting" - because that is one resolution that I know I will keep!  LOL  I did manage to get to one Estate sale this time, and I almost didn't go because the weather here has been miserable.  I also was able to visit my usual bunch of Thrift Shops too.

First up is a bunch of Thanksgiving Gurley candles - now, I don't know if I am very late finding them, or wayyyyy to early for next Thanksgiving!  Either way, I am happy to find them because my Thanksgiving collection needs some new additions to it.

At this same sale, I also found a sweet little vintage stuffed Reindeer toy (minus his antlers, which I did not notice at the time - duh!), and some old Christmas lights.  This box has "Hollywood" Christmas lights with Mazda lamps.

The other box is for Noma lights, but look at the graphics on this box!  They are really beautiful and the color is vibrant.  "Strings of Color Light All Year 'Round" - and it looks like they have lots of holidays covered here.  There is a cute little Christmas cottage with the lights on it, Halloween black cat and pumpkin, and even Uncle Sam makes an appearance on the box!

A cute little statue of a doggy patiently waiting next to the mailbox.  Not sure what he is waiting for, unless he wants to lift his leg on it!  :)   After purchasing the little dog, all afternoon this song kept running through my head.... ♪ ♫ ♪ ♫ "how much is that doggy in the window" ♪ ♫ ♪ ♫  arf!  arf!

My next stop at the Thrift yielded a nice little haul of vintage jewelry - colorful glass beads, black and white enamel chains, a goldtone double link chain, a red rose enamel pin, bone china pastel flowers pin, 2 pair of beaded cluster earrings, and an orphan earring made of pretty lime green crystal faceted beads.  Some of this I will use in my crafting projects.

Close up of the 2 flower pins and lone earring.

Another pic of the cluster earrings.

A pretty little girl statue, she has sweet little pink flowers all over her dress and hat.
Next up is a purchase I made from my blog friend Diane's Etsy Shop, Lydia's Post.  I am starting a collection (uh-oh, another collection!) of vintage white plastic kitschy Christmas decorations - I already found a white tree this year, and this will add to the display of stuff that I want around the tree.  It is really cute, and Diane also sent a sweet handmade card along with it.  Isn't it pretty!

Back to thrifting....in a bag of random junk at the Thrift shop, I found a little pink Easter bunny and carrot candle.  Gurley?  There was no tag on it, so I am not sure.  Either way, it is adorable.

That must have been my day for jewelry, because at the next shop I found several bags containing gobs of mostly vintage jewelry.  More stuff to use for the crafting projects....yippee!  I am surprised that the floors have not caved in at my house, because of all the "crafting and jewelry supply stuff" that I have amassed over the years.  I have calculated that I will have to live to be 500 years old before I can get all these projects done  :)  ...but does that stop me from buying more????   sheesh...

A beautiful vintage pink pottery vase!  They were bringing carts out of new stuff to put on the shelves, and I was at the right place at the right time.  It is about 12" tall, and in perfect condition.

Next I found a little box of prisms - I am not sure if someone made them, or if they came that way.  Little white ceramic roses attached to a crystal prism.  There are only 4 of them, so I will have to think of something to put them on.

And last but not least, a cute little red and white crocheted pot holder.  It will go in the "potholder collection"....and yes, I have one of those too....   LOL

Thank you for visiting, and I hope you all have a wonderful week of thrifting!
