My Thrifting Finds Of The Day - 2/5/14

Hi everyone!  Wow, what a week! This crummy weather is really wearing me down...more snow, more ice, more subzero temps, repeat, repeat....LOL.  I am counting the days until Spring!  Hope the weather is milder in your location.  Well, I braved the elements to go to a number of Thrifts and Estate Sales - most were OK but one was fantastic!  At the one "fantastic" sale,  I found so many goodies that it will take many posts to show it all.  I have just got a few pictures taken so far, so I can start to share with you some of the "haul".  OK, here goes:
I was going to save this one for last, but I can't wait to show you!!!  I just about keeled over when I spotted these - Vintage plastic bird clothespins!!!  Ooooh I can't wait to use these in my decorations, I love them so much and the soft pastel colors!!
Next I found an old fuzzy dachshund battery operated toy.  I don't know if he works or not, but I will find out when I get the batteries.  Such a cute weenie dog!
I found a vintage kitschy Christmas plastic garland, it is very long.  I know exactly the project I have in mind for this  :)
Lookie!  The cute little bird cages on it are soooo adorable!
A cute little honey bear, he still has his tag on but it is hard to read.
A small pair of Blue Jays, and a solid metal old turkey.  I told you I always find birds when I am thrifting, a shopping trip would not be complete without them!
A sweet pair of enamel flower earrings to add to the jewelry collection.
♪ ♫ ♪ ♫  Mary had a little lamb  ♪ ♫ ♪ ♫ and I do too  :)  Just in time for Easter!
I'm always happy to find old Gurley candles for the collection, this is a pretty red Christmas tree with glitter on it.
A box of old Shiny Brites, always welcome in my house!
I bought a BIG box of vintage cards, and it will take a while to get through them all.  I grabbed this one to show you because it is so darn cute!
I only found one of the pair of salt and peppers, I think this is supposed to be a ladybug, even though the wings are yellow.
The next three items have issues that need to be addressed, but I bought them anyway.  I was thrilled to find this old chalkware bathing beauty, until I saw that someone had taken the liberty of painting her sarong metallic blue.  UGH! Why oh why did they have to do that.  I think this was meant to hold a little glass dish in the circular opening.  See the cute little fish on the side?  I will have to do something to fix the blue paint, but she was too pretty to leave behind.  What color do you think I should cover the metallic blue with?
A beautiful lady head vase and she is still wearing her pearls, but someone broke her wrist (ouch!) and did a terrible job of repairing it.  The glue or whatever it is, is smeared all over her arm.  I'll scrape that junk off and carefully glue it back on so it is not that noticeable.  I will "give her a hand" and make her pretty again (sorry, I could not resist that one :)  I couldn't pass up a lady head vase, even though it was cracked.
I could cry about this one!  This "was" a beautiful, large, Bambi and squirrel vase-type thingy.  UNTIL I slipped and fell on the ice and it broke.  Notice the nice big white chip that is now has.....ack, I was trying to be soooo careful walking to the SUV, but there was just too much ice and snow and bam!  down I went.  Everything else survived though, and so did I.  Well, I still have the pieces to it, but I don't know how well I can repair this one.  A thrifting casualty....*sniff sniff*
And I saved this one for last - I just know you were wondering if I found vintage Pyrex!  And the answer is YES, my friends, I did!!  I was tickled "pink" when I found not one, but two! beautiful pink Pyrex bowls, and they are in good condition too.  I am in love with them, they are so pretty.  I now see why all of you are addicted to Pyrex!

Well, I have tons more to show you, and will work on taking more pix tomorrow.  Happy Thrifting everyone, and thanks so much for visiting me!

  1. Loving the wonderful! On that mishap you had with the darling vase. I have been using vases like that with some of my holiday scenes...easy to camouflage the issues. Take a look at my Etsy shop and you can see the potential with a little project if you were so inclined.

  2. Those clothespin birds are absolutely WONDERFUL! I've never ever seen anything like those. You really did have wonderful luck. I'm glad you weren't hurt when you fell. Our estate sales have mostly dried up with the awful Michigan winter. I'm definitely having withdrawal.

  3. You poor girl! I hope you are okay! You can salvage that vase! Fill it up with greens and it'll look like a tree! Love all the stuff you got! I would never find such great stuff here on long Island! Love the garland and those clothes pins.

  4. Oh! I love everything you found, what a lot of great stuff! The bird clips are so fantastic and I adore the deer and squirrel vase.

    Happy Rednesday!

  5. You're so lucky to have estate sales to go to right now! Here in MN there just aren't any good ones until Spring. You found so many great things! My Grandma has that little bear with the bow. They bought it at the hospital gift shop on the day my Dad was born. So...63 years ago!
You can totally patch up that deer planter. You can use a little Paper Clay and some acrylic paints.
Thanks for sharing your fun stuff-
    Erica :)

  6. You found so many cute and interesting things. Love those adorable bird clothes pins! So Sweet! Love the Pyrex also!! Can't wait to see more!

  7. A couple of years ago, I found the most amazing yellow floral Hull vase at an estate sale. When I was putting away all of my other things, I noticed it was missing. I walked out to my car to get it and found it broken in my driveway with a really guilty German Shepherd walking circles around it. Still not sure what happened. I was so sad!

Love those clothespin birds the best! Those have been on my wish list for quite a while. I find them online from time to time but the prices are a little too high for my liking. I just know I will find some at a sale someday.

Can't wait to see what else you found...

  8. Great finds for this time of year! Lucky you! I'm sure you're upset about the deer, but better them than you!

  9. You always find such so many great things, I can only imagine what an estate sale is like.....

  10. I am so jealous : ) LOL!!!! that battery operated dachshund is tooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo adorable!!!!! have to find one someday!!!! I mean it's the next best thing to the "real" thing which i am so lucky to be owned by : ) LOL!!! Hugs and thanks for sharing!

  11. I had a dachshund just like that when I was little - LOVED that thing - pulled his chain once & it walked, pulled the chain again and it barked... I think that I still have it somewhere ;-)
Yes! You definitely had to rescue the Lady's Head Vase - I have an entire collection of 'Less-than-perfect' L.H.V. !! I think they may need to come out for an appearance at Easter Time! - Maybe yours just needs a 'wrist corsage'??

  12. Great treasures! New Follower.

  13. You did so very well again!!! I love those bird clothespins and you always have to get excited finding Shiny Brite ornaments in the box. We run across these occasionally but only buy them when the box is in good condition. Yours looks great! Try to stay warm. We're in the snow and cold temperature zone too! (Rob)

  14. It was a good thing you decided to brave the weather. You found some very interesting things. I never saw cloths pins like that.

  15. Oh! Where do I start?
PINK Pyrex, (I only own 2 pieces of pink)
Shiny Brites and those clothes pins!
    Congrats on good finds.
I haven't found much lately but I did dream that I remembered a GREAT thrift store that I forgot all about! :) Pitiful- right?
    Thanks for the facebook love!

  16. I am so sorry you fell!!! I had a horrible fall in September and broke my hand, hurt my knee, and nearly broke my eye socket. To fall on ice? Ouch! And I am so sorry you broke your cute vase.

Those bird clothespins are super cute. I have never seen anything like them!

Dropping by for Thrifty Things Friday!

  17. Well, that little chunk out of the vase isn't the end of the world-- thank goodness you didn't seriously hurt yourself!!!!

Love the Hong Kong garland, I found one before Xmas with flocked red bells in cages, so sweet!

And two pink Pyrex bowls!!! You lucky girl!!!

  18. It hurts my eyes to read your blog on my phone so just going to look at the pics today, but nice haul!

Clothes pins are def fantastic! & love the pink Pyrex! I completed my mixing bowl set in my very early days for collecting - 401 to 403 at a thrift, 404 at a market for $15. 404 are scare around here of any pattern. Great find!

    1. But yeah, after I completed my set... I ddon't recall ever seeing another pink mixing bowl, except for a set for $120 and some on kijiji.

  19. Great, great finds, my faves are the birds, the awesome plastic Christmas garland, the pink Pyrex, and the Bambi vase if with it's bumps and bruises. Glad you're okay! Thanks so much for sharing this at my History & Home link party this week, featuring this on my Link Party Features Pinterest board! -Dawn @ We Call It

  20. Oh, my gosh, you really scored big time! Love, love, love the clothespins and the cat card! The birdcages on the garland are super - lots of crafting from those, I can vision. The blue jays caught my eye, as I have a small collection of ceramic birds. Everything else is superb!

  21. Ooohhh are you going to sell the metal turkey? Let me know, we grow them every summer! I love everything you got this week and your valentines theme!

  22. Glad you weren't injured when you fell! So many good things to drool over. I'm sure you can figure out something for the deer planter. It's so cute! HPS!
