My Thrifting Finds Of The Day - 1/28/14

Hi Everyone, it's time for another update on my thrifty vintage finds of the day - well, actually for the last 5 days!  I did not have much free time this week to thrift, because I started a big project painting rooms in the house.  It started out with wanting to repaint and reorganize my craft studio (which is a major undertaking in itself).  Then I decided to repaint the kitchen, two of the bedrooms, and one of the bathrooms.  I still need to finish the bathroom, but all the other rooms are done and I am really pleased with the results  :)  I really need to learn how to keep it simple!  I was able to go to 2 Estate sales and 5 thrift shops.  Here is what I found:
A beautiful quilt!  I love looking at all the pieces of vintage fabric that was used to make it.  It is in excellent condition too.
I can't imagine how much time it would have taken to make this, and wonder why anyone would part with it.  But lucky for me that they did!
A cute little piggy, oink oink!
This owl is a lamp, and his body is made of glass - the light glows from within.  Although it is not vintage, I just love it and he will go great in a Halloween display.  Oooh, and his eyes glow red too!
And here is......drumroll please......ta da!  My first vintage Pyrex piece!!  I have seen so many awesome collections of Pyrex on your blogs, that I decided it was time to start one of my own.  I can't believe that I didn't start sooner.  I have been doing research on it and am trying to decide which colors and patterns I would like to own.  Going by the markings on the bottom, this bowl appears to be an older one.  Okay, so I am hereby an official member of the Pyrex Collectors Club!  :)
A sweet little girl for the month of November.
And another for the month of October.
A pair of vintage Turkey salt and peppers, for the Thanksgiving collection.  Gobble gobble!
Pink!  Melmac bowls, I just love 'em!
A box of vintage Christmas ornaments.  They are so pretty with with silver glitter on them.
And another box of old ornaments.  I think I will attempt to make an ornament wreath next year, I have been inspired by the ones I have seen on blogs.  But I think I would croak if it fell down and got broken!
A wacky little coconut purse from Hawaii.  This can go in with the Tiki stuff, where it will fit in well.
A darling little egg shaped box with a bird on it.  I don't think a thrifting trip would be complete if I didn't come home with a bird item!
A blue vintage bottle brush tree with a little glass garland on it.  I didn't have a blue tree in my collection, but now I do!
A little rooster dish, not sure what it actually is used for, but it is cute anyway.  His paint needs a bit of repair on his head.
More vintage multi-strand beads!
And more beaded cluster earrings to wear or craft with.
A mish-mash of little things - part of an old Japan doll's tea set, and some little mushroom birds for crafting.
I found a book that had copies of vintage pictures of cats dressed up....hehehe.....they are so cute!  I'll show you a few of them....
They are riding on the "Catastrophic" roller coaster!
"Grand-paw" leads the parade on the Fourth of July..
For Sniffy's birthday, they went to the amusement park....(but should'nt that be "a-MEWS-ment park?)  ha!
Kitties getting married!  They are so  cute!
This has nothing to do with vintage, but PeeWee wanted to show you his new bed (actually he just wanted to get his mug in this post, he is such a little ham!)  I was in my over-priced hardware store, and surprisingly they had a sale on Animal Planet pet beds.  It was such a deal, and it is soooooo comfortable.  Wish I could fit in it!  PeeWee hopped right in and is lovin' it!

Well, that's it for today - we are in the Polar Vortex again and I just don't want to go outside.  I guess I will just putter around today, refill all the bird feeders again for the wild birds, and do more organizing in the craft studio.  I think I will make Beef Stroganoff for dinner tonight...yummy.  Happy thrifting!

My Thrifting Finds Of The Day - 1/23/14

Hi Everyone!  It has been very cold and snowy here again, and I did not get to as many of my thrift shops and Estate sales as I has wanted to.  I can't wait until it is Spring!!!  But I did get to a few shops and a couple sales, and this is my thrifting haul for the week:

I just love this little vintage Valentine girl, she is so sweet with all the hearts on her dress and her little heart hat.  She will be a welcome addition to the Valentine collection!
Next I found 3 of these vintage diorama plastic Christmas ornaments.  I really like them, and I think a new collection is in the making  :)
A cute little ceramic miniature rooster pitcher, it is only about 2" tall!
Then I found a sock monkey that I could not leave behind.  I already have 2 of them, so I guess this makes it an "official" collection.
The next item I got at an Estate sale, and I am not sure of what it actually is.  It is about 6" wide, and the base of it is maybe marble? or alabaster? but it is quite heavy.  The Scotty dog sitting on top is made of solid metal.  I think it may have been the lid to a vintage decorative box.  I could not find a bottom part to it, but it is cute as is.  Do any of you have an idea as to what it actually is??
Then I found 3 tiny, very old dolls - they appear to be made of celluloid and are very fragile.  They are about 3" tall.
Also found at this sale was an adorable Kewpie doll.  Someone had dressed it in clothes that fit.
Next is a vintage pottery fish planter in pretty pastel colors.
2 old souvenir ashtrays - 1 is ceramic with a scene on it and a face of a clock, and a dimensional key.  The other one is metal and in the shape of California.
Another enamel flower pin, and some pretty vintage rhinestone jewelry to wear or use in my creations.
Then I found 2 sweet little bird figurines.  I can't seem to pass up the little birdies wherever I go!  :)
Some of the thrifts still have Christmas decorations out - yeah!  I found a set of big honkin' pink Shiny Brite ornaments!
I found 2 old souvenir pillow covers from the same sale that I bought the ashtrays from.  I love the pink one.
And the last items I will share with you today are 3 large containers filled with old gumball charms, there is a container filled with little cowboy hats, one with guns, and the other filled with guns in holsters.
I also made a new Valentine's Day theme background and header for the blog - hope you will enjoy it!  Thank you for visiting with me, and I wish you a wonderful week filled with thrifty treasures!

My Thrifting Finds Of The Day - 1/12/14

Hi everyone, I hope you had a great weekend of finding vintage goodies!  There were not many Estate sales in my area this weekend, the 2 I went to were duds - so I was forced to drive further out than I usually do.  I went to 3 other sales - 2 of them I hardly found anything at, but at the third one - BINGO!  It was advertised as a sale that you would have to "dig" in, and dig I did!  I found oodles of vintage treasures, but I did not have time to clean them all up before I took pictures to share with you....so please excuse the dust on some of the items, and an occasional cobweb  :)  I also went to my usual thrift stores, but only found stuff at one of them.

First, I found not one - but two! lady head vases!  I love the pretty gold that was used on the flowers she is wearing.

Next I found a huge ceramic owl, he must be about 16" tall.  Not sure what I am going to do with him yet because he is so big - maybe he can go on the patio in the summer.  Whooooo whooooooo knows, but wherever he goes, he will be cute.

I found a ceramic wall plaque with dimensional birds.  I love the Blue Jay perched on the branch.  He looks so lifelike!

Next, a cute little ashtray from Eureka Springs, Arkansas.  Oops, I forgot to take the price tag off - it was only 50 cents.

I was so happy to find this adorable vintage wooden snowman scene, it expands to make a bigger scene.

Then I found a vintage metal Santa Claus wall light, and it works!

A vintage holy water font, I love the soft colors on it.

A vintage Austrian dish with beautiful pastel pink roses on it.  It is about 12" long.

I found a cute old mouse candle - there are no tags on it, so not sure of the maker.  I didn't  have a mouse candle, and had never seen one before.

A vintage St. Francis planter, he is holding a sweet little bird.

A white pottery duck planter, just in time for Easter!

And I found more vintage jewelry to keep, and for use in my crafting!

A gorgeous necklace, bracelet, and earring set with AB rhinestones!

Another picture of the jewelry - I think the little orchid is my favorite!  I also got a jar full of old crystal iridescent beads to use in my jewelry.

This is the last item I have for today - I don't think it is that old (maybe from the 80's?) but it is beyond cute!  It is a metal windup toy called the "Bird Home".  I took pictures from all angles so that you can see the adorable graphics on it.  This toy has 3 mechanical birds that fly around in a circle on top of the bird house, a bird that comes out of the house, like a cuckoo clock, a little birdie on a swing that moves on the side of the house, another bird that comes out the front of the house, a clock that moves, and yet another bird on the roof of the house.

Love the owl graphics!

I will be taking more pictures of the other goodies that I got from this sale, and will post them in a few days.  Until then, happy thrifting everyone!  And thank you so much for visiting Pixie Vintage!
