Blizzard, Bird Feeders, and Frolicking Dogs

What does a blizzard, bird feeders and frolicking dogs have to do with Vintage, you ask?  Absolutely nothing!  LOL  But we are having one heck of a winter storm, and I wanted to show you what our yard looked like today.  This is what I woke up to this morning:

and that was just the beginning...it just kept snowing, and snowing, and snowwwwwwing.  Three acres of Winter Wonderland!  The back yard looks so pretty with all that snow (and there is about 10 inches more of it now!  :)  We have had the driveway plowed twice already today.  Now tonight it is supposed to get down to -14 below zero, with wind chills of -44 below zero!  yikes!

I took extra precautions to fill up all the bird feeders - we have 7 of them.  I kept shoveling a spot in the front yard and putting extra seed on the ground for the birds too. The Goldfinches were very hungry - every feeding station on the thistle feeder was full.

The Woodpeckers were filling up at the suet feeders.  I love all the birds, but I am especially fond of my little Woodpeckers.

This poor Cardinal is getting blown away as he is trying to grab some seed.  This is the squirrel-proof feeder I bought this summer - and so far, it has prevented the squirrels from taking all the seed.  I put dried corn out for the squirrels.

And a lone Goldfinch feeding from the other sunflower seed feeder:

The dogs always enjoy romping in the snow!  Here is PeeWee, my Pomeranian, checking out the snow.

My friend's Bulldog came by for a visit, and is pondering how he can get into mischief  :)  He and PeeWee are best buddies.

Pee Wee says "hey Mom, let's play!"

Here comes the Bulldog barreling down the dog run - look out!

My little snow dog

Hope you are staying warm and toasty wherever you are!  Tomorrow I will be back to show you my newest thrifted goodies, see you then!

  1. Such a cute post! I love birds and squirrels! We live in the woods, and it's been so much fun to watch them. The squirrels do steal all of the birdseed though, so I have to get some new feeders! We didn't get any new snow but tomorrow is suppose to be the coldest day in several years here in MN. Schools are closed state wide!
Hope you and PeeWee stay warm!

I've lived in some very snowy places but so far, Idaho is mostly just cold!
My dogs do *NOT* like the snow but one of my cats do! she's not supposed to go outside though. Figures!

I look forward to seeing your thrifted goodies!

  6. Your birdies thank you for taking such good care of them. Aren't you dogs delightful! We filled up the feeders yesterday but I don't think we'll be venturing back outside today. It's down right scary but I'm enjoying the blizzard from the comfort of my home. Stay cozy!

  7. Isn't it nice to watch the birdies at their feeders from the comfort of home in the winter? ;o) I tried introducing our cat to the snow yesterday, and have many claw marks on my arms to show for it!

    Stay warm!

  8. I can't imagine that much snow at once. We never get that much here (Oregon). Good for you for feeding all those birdies too. A good deed for the day!

  10. What great pictures! I live in Alabama so snow is still a rare treat for us. We did get a few flurries yesterday and the temp this morning is 4 degrees! I know it's not near as cold as yours but it's cold enough for me.

I love your blog, it's so cheery.
